Cooperation in teams

Cooperation in teams is something that has my special interest. It’s fantastic to watch a team working as everything seems to happen effortless and the team members get the best out of each other. I am fascinated by the question of what makes one team flourish, while another will end up with a power struggle and mutual misunderstanding.

Based on the idea that people build the world around themselves, I see the giving of meaning as being the central concept of organizing. For that reason, within my studies in management and organisational science I chose a master programme in organisations, change and management. In my thesis I explored how colleagues in the support team of Kessels & Smit, the ‘GO-team’, give meaning to cooperation and how this relates to the principles of Kessels & Smit.

The balance between personal freedom and a strong connection to the company as a whole makes Kessels & Smit a special organisation for me. I experienced freedom because my thesis threw up questions such as: what do you feel passionate about, what topic suits you, what would you like to investigate? That is typical Kessels & Smit: working from the heart, on things you really go for. That’s why I did my thesis on a topic that genuinely interests me, which is great fun!

I have received strong support, both concerning content and personally, a combination I find very stimulating. I feel I have grown enormously in seven months at Kessels & Smit, both professionally and personally.

In the future I’d like to do more work on the subject of cooperation in teams. I enjoy working with people who, like me, want to make a difference!
